Prepositions II
Prepositions of Direction and Location – these prepositions tell us about the physical situation of someone or something.
Prepositions of Direction – words in this group include the following:
across along around back to down
into onto out of past round
through to towards up
Prepositions are always followed an object (a noun, object pronoun or noun group). Here are some examples:
She arrived back to the house after a hard night.
I waked out of the classroom.
I didn’t walk past you, you walked past me!
Madonna came onto the stage to loud heckling.
Drive along this street and across the junction, when the lights are green.

I’m not lazy, I’m in between jobs.
Among that pile of books is my homework.
40 years old is not near the end!
Behind the winner came the losers.

Some prepositions can be used for both direction and location:
He spends all day walking around the city centre.
If you need to find him he’ll always be around the office.

Prepositional Adverbs of Direction and Location – Many prepositions act as adverbs and vice versa, these are called prepositional adverbs. These words are not followed by a verb.
Example:
PREPOSITION
I walked up the street.
PREPOSITIONAL ADVERB
I walked up.

Decide whether the missing words in task 1 are prepositions (P) or prepositional adverbs (PA)
In speech, prepositional adverbs are usually stressed more than the preposition.
