Adverbs II
The next groups we will study are the adverbs of degree (how much) and frequency (how often) as these groups give quality to our sentence structures.
Adverbs of degree - These adverbs tell us how much of a quality something has.
very so too really quite much thoroughly
‘so’ is positive, ‘too’ is negative and ‘quite’ can mean completely or a little
They can come before adjectives:
This bag is too heavy His eyes are very blue I am very tired
Before adverbs:
She ran so quickly You did very well He asked me quite politely
And between auxiliary verbs and main verbs:
I am really enjoying this film
Adverbs of frequency - The adverbs in this group tell us how often we do something.
often frequently always never twice usually generally
They come before verbs:
I always eat bread He sometimes helps me We never do that
And between auxiliary verbs and main verbs:
They have often visited Italy I am usually eating at 6pm
